Hello, my name is Josh and this blog serves as a digital archive for my music-related writing projects. I was a local radio DJ and college graduate with a degree in communications and journalism. I interned for a local music magazine called Xperience in which I have had several band interviews published (these are archived here as well as on the Xperience website). I also play in a band called Proximity Crush where I provide guitar and vocals. A broad majority of the music posts on here will be related to underground/alternative genres. You can browse works by the following labels,

    Band Interviews: Self-explanatory; these are interviews that have been submitted to and published in Xperience monthly magazine.

    Album Reviews: Broad reviews of albums, but mostly used as a portfolio of reviews for albums in my vinyl collection.

Nils Frahm - Graz (Album Review)

  Nils Frahm - Graz (2021) My copy: 2021 press by Erased Tapes Records. Submitted as a thesis by the name Conversations For Piano And Room, Nils Frahm intentionally toys with anticipation and time to create thought-provoking vignettes of frequently haunting melody. Graz does require patience and appreciation for solo piano work, but the production gives a personal sense in which the room itself plays a major role. “Lighter” is slow and feels fittingly conversational, posing melancholy phrases that hang in the air as if in dismay at a partner’s response to a difficult question. “O I End” becomes more active with swelling two-note ostinatos that rise and fall with hints of urgency - giving an autumnal sense with fluttering cadences like cold leaves falling slowly from their tree. Bobby Lees

  (L-R: Nick Casa, Sam Quartin, Macky Bowman, Kendall Wind) The Bobby Lees are an uncompromising garage-rock/punk band from Woodstock, New York. In a recent socially distant interview, the band wrote in to describe their recording process, their new upcoming record, and some interesting encounters at shows. RRX: Obviously, everyone is still struggling in the time of COVID-19. For the past three issues, I’ve done interviews while bands are stuck in quarantine. What have you guys been doing to combat this and stay creative and positive towards your local underground scene?   SQ : We quarantined together the first couple weeks so we wrote a bunch of new stuff. Took lots of walks, cooked, puzzles, stayed pretty positive.
